Jonathan Calof


Dr. Calof is recognized as one of the leaders in competitive intelligence. Jonathan Calof is an Associate Professor of International Business at the University of Ottawa, an associate of the Estey Center, associate editor of Executive Magazine, and columnist on event intelligence with Competitive
Intelligence Magazine. Jonathan has given over 500 speeches, seminars and keynote addresses around the world on competitive intelligence and has helped several companies and government agencies around the world enhance their intelligence capabilities. In recognition of his contribution to the competitive intelligence field, Jonathan was presented with the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professional's (SCIP) Catalyst award at the 1997 SCIP annual conference. He is one of the first Canadian ever so honored. Interest in his work has also resulted in several interviews on radio and in print in Canada, United States, United Kingdom, South Africa and New Zealand. He has been featured in such national publications as Forbes, Business Week, CIO Magazine, Financial Times, The National Post, Globe and
Mail, Canadian Business, local publications such as Ottawa Citizen, Montreal Gazette, Edmonton Journal, Halifax Chronicle, Medecine Hat Times, and Vancouver Business Today as well as being featured on Canada A.M (CTV), As It Happens (CBC) and Global News. The Society of Competitive Intelligence, in one of their articles referred to Dr. Calof as a dynamic and energetic speaker, another article refe rs to him as:
Dr. Calof, of the University of Ottawa, delivered a fast-paced energetic overview of CI to a packed lecture theater. His enthusiasm led one participant to comment, “it felt like a revival meeting” (Actionable Intelligence)

While an article in the Edmontonian called him "one of the world leaders in competitive intelligence"

Dr. Calof’s research in international decision making and competitive intelligence has been published in numerous academic and management journals including the Competitive Intelligence Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Business Quarterly, International Journal of Small usiness Management, International Business Review, The Magazine That's All about Small Business, Ottawa Business News and Ottawa Business Magazine.As well, Dr. Calof has been given awards and honours from several academic
associations, including the Academy of Business Administration, the International Council for Small Business - South Africa, the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada, and the Academy of International Business.

Dr. Calof is currently involved in three major intelligence initiatives:
  1) Technology intelligence and Foresight – Working with the office of the National Science Advisor (Canadian Privy Council Office), Energy Inet, and other agencies around the world, Dr. Calof has been working to develop technology intelligence and foresight best practices.
  2) Trade show and event intelligence. This program has involved helping companies and government agencies better manager their trade show efforts through use of intelligence techniques at these events:
  3) Project intelligence. This program integrates a unique mentoring approach where participants execute on their own projects.
